GAEMS Vanguard vs Sentry

Share on FacebookShare on TwitterShare on Pinterest

GAEMS is among the best brand for mobile console player, if not the best. However, you might be stuck or can’t make a decision whether to get the simple version Sentry model or the larger and more advance Vanguard model.

Well, then this review, in a nutshell, will reveal the best specs in comparison to the two models. And most importantly which one you really need.

Quick answer: The Vanguard model (check the latest price on Amazon) was clearly made to be of higher quality than the Sentry. If you’re looking for quality and the best experience then Vanguard is the best. For casuals, the Sentry model (check the latest price on Amazon) would perform just fine.

To begin, a comparison of video performance, audio performance, accessories & specifications below.

Video Performance

Vanguard: Non-reflective 19″ – 720p (1080p scaled) – El-LED display – Matte Screen – Viewing Angle Kickstand

Sentry: 15.5-Inch – HD 720p – EL-LED display

As you can see, the video specs are self-explanatory. Vanguard model has more notable qualities over the Sentry model.

The vanguard has a larger screen, with 1080 capabilities. While both do provide a great video resolution with an LED platform.

The screen quality hands down to Vanguard. The matte screen is a non-reflective material, therefore, absorbing all those annoying light spots. The sentry is exposed to those light highly reflective spots when playing as the screen is not matte material.

Another quality of the Vanguard model is that it will allow you to play from different angles. The system was made for you to adjust up 170 degrees. This allows you to play at any angle within the 170 degrees just fine.

The sentry best angle is the standard 90 degrees as it doesn’t provide a better quality at a different angle.

The Winner: Vanguard

Audio Performance

Vanguard: Integrated Speakers, Dual Stereo Output Jacks, Fits Carry-On (TSA Friendly)

Sentry: Integrated Speakers, Dual Stereo Output Jacks, Fits Carry-On

There is no major difference in terms of audio, however, the Vanguard offers a bit more quality with the ‘Chambered Metal Coned Stereo’ which amplifies the stereo audio quality. Again, it is not a game changer, just simply an edge of the standard sound of the Sentry.

These PGEs have an excellent volume as both could get very loud. This is excellent when you’re traveling with someone else.

However, if you can to keep the sounds to your self then both PGEs provide a dual stereo output jack for your headphones experience.

Since is a dual output jack (3.5 mm), you can have two users listening to the audio. This is perfect for when playing movies and music videos.

Both PGE’s models play DVD & Blu-Ray. So you can take your movies and play them on the go.

Winner by very small margin is the Vanguard model.

Accessories included

Vanguard: PGE Sling – PGE Remote – HDMI Cable – Badge – Skins – Battle Bag

Sentry: HDMI Cable – Badge – Skins – Battle Bag

The accessories that these PGE’s includes is a 7 inch HDMI cable. A customizable gaming badge and a battle bag for all carry on accessories. Both PGEs have custom skin integration capabilities.

The Vanguard includes a remote control for the volume and other adjusting settings as well as a better luggage sling. These are few of the things sold separately for the Sentry model.

Specifications

Vanguard: Weight – 11.5 lbs & Dimensions – 19.75 x 7 x 16.75 inches & Power output at 100 – 240v AC

Sentry: Weight – 8 lbs & Dimensions – 20 x 6.8 x 15 inches Power output at 100 – 240v AC

This is the only time where the Vanguard is at a disadvantage compare to Sentry. The Sentry model is less heavy compared to the Vanguard and also smaller.

Does it make that much of difference? The difference between the weight is 3.5 pound. The answer to that is subject to each individual. Some people do not care about the weight difference but others might do.

Extra Information

GAEMS manage to get all their PGEs TSA approved. So you shouldn’t worry much about them when traveling. Also, since the product build is armored and made of sturdy material, it is very safe traveling alongside baggage.

The PGEs were essentially designed for console gaming, like Xbox and PS consoles. However, if you have a different console with an HDMI output then it should work too. Although, is highly recommended to use the mainstream console as intended.

And like any excellent companies and product, both models are backed with a 1-year warranty. As well as 30 days return if you’re not satisfied completely.

The Verdict

There is no doubt that the Vanguard(Amazon) is clearly better almost in every aspect. However, just because it is better, does not mean it suits everybody. Yes, Vanguard as a lot more quality than the Sentry(Amazon) but also will everyone will take advantage of the Vanguard full potential? And the price?

The answer comes down how much are you going to really use it. Are you a frequent traveler or a light traveler?

For frequent travelers, definitely, the Vanguard is the best choice. Since you’re on the road frequently, overall quality is a big deal. Also, space might be something that a frequent traveler might need. The Vanguard is suited for those users.

Also, comes down how much of performance craving person are you. If you want the top-notch quality for the best experience possible then clearly the Vanguard is the best choice.

The price difference for the Vanguard is $100 ( Sentry $250 & Vanguard $350 ). Does it worth the price difference? Definitely! The qualities difference is very obvious but depends if it is a good fit for you.

However, you might not be anything above, then the Sentry might suit you better than the Vanguard.

At times, I found myself just watching movies on some of my trips which the Sentry would be perfect for those occasions. However, other times when I am into a game, I mostly play video games in the road. Sentry will also do just fine.

The decision is subjective to each person. But if you already made one then let us know in the comments below.

Also, if you currently own one of them or perhaps both then let us know which one you like the most.
