If you need extra defensive capabilities that the conventional Base and Armor layers do not provide in Fallout 4, you are probably going to need Power Armor. Of course, a Fusion Core and the Base Frame are essential. But knowing when to use the best Power Armor configurations at certain points of the game is another story. Here is a list of some of the best Power Armors in Fallout 4.
Raider Power Armor
The Raider Power Armor (Raider and Raider II) is great for the early stages of the game.
The initial Raider Power Armor has a Physical Damage Resistance (DR) of +500, an Energy DR of +250, and a Radiation DR of +1050. The Raider II Power Armor has a Physical DR of +650, an Energy DR of +250, and a Radiation DR of +1050. Its HP is 700, its Weight is 112.1, and its value is 493. It can be repaired with Steel (x20). Its upgrade component is Aluminum (x23).
You can obtain the Raider Power Armor off of several raider leaders, as well as in a variety of locations. In the town of Lexington, for example, you can defeat two raiders, one Fat Man-armed raider on a roof across from the Corvega Plant, and the other is a pipe rifle-armed raider on top of the building that surrounds the swimming pool.
There is also a set of full armor next to a dead raider in the Cave location, on the raider “Boomer” in Outpost Zimonja, in a corner of the Roadside Pines Motel, on a raider near the Wreck of the USS Riptide, on a raider at the Federal Ration Stockpile, on a raider at the top of the Massachusetts State House, on “Cutty” in the Poseidon Energy plant, on the Gunners’ Tessa (Tessa’s Fist), on a raider in the Dunwich Borers, in a cave of the Glowing Sea, on a raider veteran in Libertalia, in Saugus Ironworks, and in Bunker Hill.
You can buy the armor from Rowdy in Atom Cats garage. If you join the Brotherhood of Steel, multiple raiders wear this armor.
T-45 Power Armor
The T-45 Power Armor has expanded options for upgrades (models A through F). It benefits from the Charisma-boosting Minutemen paint (+6 Charisma total).
The fully upgraded “F” model has a Physical DR of +1100, an Energy DR of +910, and a Radiation DR of +1050. The “F” model also has an HP of 1125 and a weight of 114.8. All models require Circuitry (x1) and Steel (x27) for repair. The upgrade components of the “F” model are Adhesive (x31), Aluminum(x62), Circuitry(x25), and Nuclear Material(x5).
A full suit of the T-45 is available during the quest “When Freedom Calls“. It is on the Museum of Freedom roof next to the crashed Vertibird. Its right leg and left arm are damaged, and it is the only full T-45 suit not based on the main character’s level.
If Bridget is dead at Hub City Auto Wreckers, a Gunner will re-spawn on the overpass there. They will always have T-45 pieces. Rowdy also sells T-45 pieces.
T-51 Power Armor
The T-51 Power Armor is a pre-Great War armor with six models (A through F).
The “F” model has a Physical DR of +1340, an Energy DR of +1090, and a Radiation DR of +1050. It has an HP of 1395, a Weight of 114.8, and a Value of 973. “F” model repair requires Aluminum(x1), Circuitry(x1), and Steel (x33). Finally, an “F” model upgrade requires Adhesive(x31), Aluminum(x69), Circuitry(x31), and Nuclear Material (x7).
Clint wears the T-51 at the Overpass in Quincy Ruins. Tessa wears the T-51 in an incomplete form at the Quincy Police Station. In Nuka-World, a Gunner wears a T-51 opposing the Bradberton Overpass. Finally, Rowdy sells T-51 parts.
T-60 Power Armor
The T-60 Power Armor is the Brotherhood of Steel’s standard issue armor of choice.
The “F” model has a Physical DR of +1580, an Energy DR of +1245, and a Radiation DR of +1050. It has an HP of 1665, a Weight of 114.8, and a Value of 1200. The “F” model Repair requirements are Steel(x40), Aluminum(x8), Plastic(x8), and Circuitry(x1). Its upgrade components are Adhesive(x43), Aluminum(x60), Ceramic(x56), Circuitry(x30), Nuclear Material(x6), and Rubber (x28).
Four T-60 suits are on the Prydwen. The Sole Survivor can get one by joining the Brotherhood; the rest can be obtained by stealing. The Prydwen’s power armor station can also be used. Rowdy sells T-60 parts. If you complete “Blind Betrayal” you are awarded a T-60.
In “Airship Down” you can get one from Elder Maxson’s body. After “Rockets’ Red Glare” you can get one from Knight-Sergeant Gavil’s body. You can buy one from Proctor Teagan on the Prydwen. The rogue knight and Clint wear T-60 pieces, and T-60s are generally worn by members of the Brotherhood.
X-01 Power Armor
The X-01 Power Armor has the highest defense capabilities of any power armor. It has six variations (Mk I through VI).
The Mk VI has a Physical DR of +1820, an Energy DR of +1390, and a Radiation DR of +1050. Its HP is 1935, the Weight is 114.8, and the value is 1525. Its Repair values are Aluminum(x16), Circuity(x2), Copper(x5), and Steel(x45). Its upgrade components are Adhesive(x50), Aluminum(x69), Ceramic(x56), Circuitry(x38), Nuclear Material(x8), and Rubber(x38).
You can steal a level-independent X-01 helmet from Proctor Teagan’s shop on the Prydwen, and a level-independent X-01 suit (minus helmet) after completing “Blind Betrayal”.
You can find two full X-01s at the Nuka-World power plant, one X-01 west of Dry Rock Gulch, one at Fort Hagen hangar, one at the 35 Court Building in the Financial District, and one in the National Guard training yard. Incomplete sets can be found at the Federal surveillance center K-21B, in a tunnel during the “Big Dig” quest, and west of Finch Farm.
