In your search for Shaun, you are definitely going to need a variety of arms at your side. Ballistics and energy weapons are great at long ranges, but what if you find yourself at close quarters? Or what if you are trying to perform Sneak attacks? Or what if you run out of ammunition? You should use melee weapons.
Melee weapons inflict +10% Damage with every point of Strength you have, and they don’t tax your ammo. They also encourage Sneak and Critical hits in V.A.TS. mode. Here are some of the best melee weapons in Fallout 4.
General Chao’s Revenge
General Chao’s Revenge is a Unique variant of the Chinese Officer Sword. Already equipped with a Serrated Blade weapon modification, this sword also benefits from the Troubleshooter’s effect — which adds 50% more damage to robotic enemies. So if you plan on taking out a lot of Synths, this is one of the best melee weapons to choose.
General Chao’s Revenge has a DPS of 34, a Damage Per Attack of 28, an Action Point Cost of 35, and a Damage per Action Point of 0.8. It has a Medium Swing speed, a little faster than its Blunt Weapon (specifically Sledgehammer) counterparts. With the Electrified Serrated Blade modification, you get +12 Bleed and +15 Energy Damage per Hit.
In the “Order Up” side quest at the Drumlin Diner, you must resolve the altercation between Wolfgang, Simone, and Trudy. You must also keep Trudy from being killed, and at this point she becomes a merchant of general goods.
You can then buy the sword from Trudy. The Weapon Value (in caps) is 775, and the Weight is 3, leaving a Value to Weight Ratio of 258.3.

The Super Sledge
The Super Sledge is one of the melee weapons familiar to the Fallout series, but in Fallout 4 it uses a rocket-powered (rather than kinetic energy storage) propulsion system. Though powerful, the Super Sledge is slower in speed and consumes AP at a high rate. In V.A.T.S. mode, it can only do three hits at most.
The Super Sledge has a DPS of 30.8, a Damage Per Attack of 40, an Action Point Cost of 45, and a Damage per Action Point of 0.89. It has a slow swing speed. With the Stun Pack Modification, you get +27 Energy Damage per Hit.
The Super Sledge is sold by KL-E-0 in Goodneighbor, and by Arturo Rodriguez in Commonwealth Weaponry. You can also buy it from the character Cricket. The Weapon Value is 180, the Weight is 20, with a Value to Weight Ratio of 9.
Institute super mutants occasionally carry this weapon. Finally, you can pick up the Super Sledge off the body of Hammer in West Everett Estates, off the body of Lefty, and off the bodies of the Forged faction in Saugus Ironworks.
The Furious Power Fist
The Furious Power Fist is a Legendary variant of the normal Power Fist weapon. Basically, a high-powered battering ram with medium-speed punch attacks. As a Legendary variant melee weapon, it has increased capabilities. With each consecutive hit on the same target, you get +15% Damage.
The normal Power Fist has a DPS of 23.8, a Damage per Attack of 20, an Action Point Cost of 35, and a Damage per Action Point of 0.57. The Weapon Value is 100, the Weight is 4, and the Value to Weight Ratio is 25.
As one of the Legendary melee weapons, however, Damage increases by 15% on each consecutive hit — but you must hit the same target within 10 seconds of each hit. The Puncturing Piston weapons modification results in +27 Damage per Hit. The Heating Piston weapons modification results in +20 Energy Damage per Hit.
To obtain the Furious Power Fist, defeat Swan at Swan’s Pond. It will be on Swan’s body.

Pickman’s Blade
Pickman’s Blade is a unique melee weapon. Unlike other melee weapons on this list so far, the Pickman’s Blade is very fast and lightweight. It has a Wounding effect on targets, causing them to lose 25 more points of Damage through bleeding. It also causes 10 points of Damage over 5 seconds of bleeding — and the bleeding effects stack up with each hit.
Pickman’s Blade has a DPS of 59.9, a Damage per Attack of 15, an Action Point Cost of 20, and a Damage per Action Point of 0.75. The Weapon Value is 143, the Weight is 1, and the Value to Weight Ratio is 143. With either the Serrated or Stealth Blades weapons modifications, you get +10 Damage per Hit.
This weapon is behind the painting “Picnic for Stanley“, located in the room on the left side of the hall of Pickman’s Gallery. After you rescue Pickman from raiders, you will be awarded Pickman’s Key. Use the key to open the safe behind the painting, and the weapon is inside.
Kremvh’s Tooth
Kremvh’s Tooth is a Unique machete, one of the melee weapons found in Fallout 4. With the “sacrificial blade” modification, its shape changes, it receives short-term Bleeding and Poison effects, and Damage is greatly increased. It has a Medium Swing speed.
Kremvh’s Tooth has a DPS of 50.2, a Damage per Attack of 28 (+3 Poison), an Action Point Cost of 30, and a Damage per Action Point of 0.93 (+0.1 Poison). It has a Weapon Value of 2, a Weight of 2, and a Value to Weight Ratio of 50.
With the Serrated Blade Modification, there is increased Bleeding and Damage (unknown amount). With the Sacrificial Blade Modification, there is increased Poisoning, Bleeding, and Damage (unknown amounts).
In the Dunwich Borers, there is an underwater shaft. Right before the bottom of the shaft, there is a tunnel leading to an altar with mini-nukes and glowing mushrooms. The Kremvh’s Tooth is located there.
